Oak #77706 Oct 7th 2019

Oak: 8 yr old Oak was brought in as a stray, found running in the street. He was very overgrown & matted.

During the handling assessment Oak was very uncomfortable with touch, tensing up & freezing, lip licking and yawning He also growled and snapped during his medical exam. He was slightly fearful & hesitant to approach handlers & began thrashing when a handler attempted to return him to his kennel.

For these reasons he was he was given the behavior determination of ‘New Hope only’ meaning he couldn’t be adopted out directly to the public and would have to be placed with one of ACC’s rescue partners.

Because of his behavior Oak had to be sedated to be groomed.

Although Oak’s behavior was much better post grooming and he was sweet with me his behavior was not so great and unpredictable with other shelter staff

Because oak remained fearful and was still exhibiting handling and touch sensitivities he was put on the at risk list. He needed to be placed with a rescue and it was suggested he go to an adult only home.

One of DGF’s amazing supporters reached out to great rescue and together they were able to rescue sweet Oak and outside of the shelter environment he blossomed and his foster home became his forever home and he is now living his best life getting loved & spoiled.
